Marguerite Carnec (b.1994) is a French artist based in Glasgow.

Her art practice ranges from painting to drawing to printmaking, depicting self-referential narratives exploring the pain and joy of living.

As a trained illustrator she is interested in narrative, and although

she starts off her work in an abstract way, stories and characters will show themselves and surprise her by coming to life under her hand. Crucially, she works with her instincts, instead of against them.

Since a young age she’s been obsessed with keeping the drawing ‘alive’ on the page, and has always kept a high level of energy in her work as a result. With her deeply personal imagery she is trying to give the viewer a certain ‘charge’, creating movement, energy and poetry, inviting them to look, and most importantly, to feel.

Her work was featured in ‘Illustration Research Methods’ published by Bloomsbury (2021) and alongside her writing in Varoom Magazine (2017) and the Jackdaw magazine (2017). She was commissioned a series of 15 drawings to illustrate the Greek classic ‘Metamorphosis, by Ovid’ for the French publishing house Les Belles Lettres in 2019.

Marguerite won the Dekkle printmaking prize (London, 2018) and

she was the Editorial New Talent winner at the World Illustration Awards (London, 2016). She was also nominated for the Clyde and Co. Art award (2016) and her work was exhibited at their London offices in 2016.

She is a member of the Glasgow Print Studio, and an ex member of the Graphic Studio Dublin (2019). She was artist in residence at the Topolski Studio residency in London, 2016.
