My art practice ranges from painting to drawing to printmaking, depicting self-referential narratives exploring the pain and joy of living. Artist R.B. Kitaj coined the term Painting-Drawing to describe a stream of art, where the two methods are wed in a marriage. This describes accurately what I am creating. As a trained illustrator I am interested in narrative, and although I start off my work in an abstract way, stories and characters will show themselves and surprise me by coming to life under my hand. Crucially, I work with my instincts, instead of against them.

‘When I create from the heart everything works, when from the head almost nothing.”
Marc Chagall

Since a young age I've been obsessed with keeping the drawing ‘alive’ on the page, and I have always kept a high level of energy in my work as a result. When painting is like a dance, it enables me to forget myself and let my instincts take over. With my deeply personal imagery I am trying to give the viewer a certain ‘charge’, creating movement, energy and poetry, inviting them to look, and most importantly, to feel.
